How to search real job postings from ChatGPT or Claude
Short answer: add https://openings.avagama.co/mcp as a connector in your AI app. Your assistant can then search 469,607 live roles from 4,638 employers' own job boards, rank them against your resume with quoted evidence, and link you to the employer's own posting. It never applies on your behalf.
Why an assistant cannot search jobs on its own
A chat assistant has no live view of the job market. Ask it for roles posted this week and it will either decline or reconstruct half-remembered listings. What it lacks is a source it can query. Openings is that source: a job index built from employers' own boards, exposed through the Model Context Protocol, which is the standard these apps use to reach outside tools.
How to add it, app by app
Claude
Open Settings, then Connectors, then Add custom connector. Name it Openings, paste the address, and leave authentication as detected. Claude opens our sign-in page, you enter your email and the six-digit code, and approve. Set tool permissions to always allow: every tool is read-only.
ChatGPT
Turn on developer mode under Settings, Security and login. Then Settings, Connectors, Create, paste the address, and choose OAuth. Leave the client fields empty, since ChatGPT identifies itself automatically.
Terminals and editors
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user openings https://openings.avagama.co/mcp codex mcp add openings --url https://openings.avagama.co/mcp gemini mcp add --transport http openings https://openings.avagama.co/mcp
Cursor and VS Code take the same address in their MCP configuration files.
What to ask once it is connected
A prompt that uses the tools well:
Show me what Openings covers in India. If that looks useful, ask for my resume and use it to find backend roles, including good jobs whose titles I would not have searched for. Rank by evidence and explain every gap.
The assistant reports how many employers and roles it holds for your country first, so you can judge the coverage before sharing anything. It then returns roles posted in the last seven days, widening to fourteen and thirty only when a week is thin, and says when it widened.
What it does and does not do
| Does | Does not |
|---|---|
| Searches employers' own job boards | Scrape aggregator listings or recruiter reposts |
| Ranks roles against your resume with quoted evidence | Invent experience you do not have |
| Says how old each posting is, and whether the date came from the employer | Present a stale role as current |
| Links to the employer's own application page | Apply, submit forms or contact employers for you |
Running it on your own machine instead
If you would rather keep everything local, install the package and point your app at it. No account, no server, and the index lives in your home folder.
bun add --global openings
The source is on npm as openings and the code is open. Your resume is parsed in memory for one request and never written to disk.
Common questions
Can ChatGPT or Claude search real job postings?
Yes, once you connect a job search tool. Openings is a free connector at https://openings.avagama.co/mcp. After you add it, the assistant can search 469,607 live roles from 4,638 employers' own job boards and open each posting on the employer's site.
Does the assistant apply to jobs for me?
No. Every Openings tool is read-only. It finds roles, ranks them against your resume and explains the gaps. Applying stays with you, on the employer's own site.
Is it free, and do I need an account?
Searching is free. The hosted connector asks for an email address and sends a six-digit code, so that usage can be rate-limited fairly. You can also run Openings entirely on your own machine with no account at all.
Is my resume stored?
No. On your own machine the resume is parsed in memory for a single request and never written to disk. Through the hosted connector it is sent to the server, used for that one request and discarded.
Which apps can use it?
Any app that speaks the Model Context Protocol: Claude, ChatGPT in developer mode, Claude Code, Codex CLI, Cursor, VS Code with Copilot, and Gemini CLI.
